About Our Logo

Our logo and business cards were designed by the extraordinary Buffie Harris Dunn of Design Orbit. This web site, constructed by my whip-smart husband, Greg Amis, is based on Buffie's design.

The circle represents totality, wholeness, earth energy, community, and sacred space. The cells within the circle represent the individual within the larger community. These cells also look like thumbprints, a perfect metaphor for shiatsu, and for the uniqueness of each individual.

The flower represents potential and blossoming into health. Flowers are also a traditional symbol of the feminine. In feng shui, the ancient Chinese art of space arrangement, yellow symbolizes health, and red represents activating energy and a good reputation. According to the Five Element Theory used in shiatsu, yellow corresponds to earth qi, digestion, the center, grounding, and thoughtfulness. Red corresponds to fire qi, laughter, the heart-mind, and joy.
